Did you/would you expect guests to pay for drinks at your wedding?

I agree completely. You do need to take care of your guests. You wouldn't expect them to pay for drinks if you invited them to your home either. That said, I don't believe that you need to spend extraordinary amounts of money on food and drink either. Spend what you can afford.
