To whom does the work of an employed designer belong to?

It's theirs, not yours. You don't get it both ways. Bill Gates had the same thing with his O/S. Do the correct thing. Or just take everything and see if your get sued or fired. Jobs are a dime a dozen in this economy. That sucking noise you here isn't the E.C. going down the toilet.
